Attached is a media release from Australia's largest not-for-profit health insurer - HCF with some claim data relating to the 2012 calendar year.
There are some interesting numbers which highlight the need for health cover, but the article also highlights the importance of having personal risk cover (ie: personal Life/TPD/Trauma/Income protection insurance) which would add to the level of protection for ordinary Australians.
The article demonstrates that medical costs from certain illnesses and conditions can be in the thousands and whilst private health insurance provides some financial relief, a more complete strategy would be to have personal risk insurance to fill the gaps in the cost of medical care.
Did you know that your superannuation fund can assist with the premium costs associated with Life/TPD/Income protection insurance cover? The issue of cost is actually a non-issue when you consider the potential financial benefits should a health crisis occur.
It's worth thinking about it.
